Movie Reviews: The Love Guru

Bad karma has descended on The Love Guru in the form of a display of single stars, F grades, and downturned thumbs from critics. "This film could have been written on toilet walls by callow adolescents," writes Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times. A.O. Scott in the New York Times recalls star Mike Myers's earlier successes, then remarks that he "sees to have lost his touch." Joe Neumaier, writing in the New York Daily News, condemns the movie as "an atrocious, idiotic 88 minutes of anti-entertainment." And Kyle Smith in the New York Post concludes his review by remarking, , "Comparing the comedy in this film and that of Get Smart, the weekend's other big release, is like asking whether Hamas or Hezbollah puts on a nicer Easter parade."

With those dazzling post horse boy looks, Ronan Keating became one of Europe's most adorable stars as the leader of the Irish son band Boyzone. The quint Irish lads in Boyzone, world Health Organization made their debut in 1993, reinforced their magnetic style into one of the biggest European pop/rock acts of the Apostles of the '90s. But in front he was victorious over the humankind, Keating was a middle class child living in Dublin. Born Ronan Patrick John Keating on March 3, 1977, he was the last of quartet children in the Keating family. His father-God Gerry was a gin mill owner and his mother Marie was a stylist, so financially the Keating family was trying to make ends meet. The working trudge instilled the desire to act in the youngest Keating. While working in a local shoe storage, he noticed an ad that was searching for an Irish Take That. The 14-year-old beat out ccc hopefuls with his own interpreting of the Cat Stevens song "Father & Son" and was onto becoming a celebrity. Boyzone released four-spot albums, every unitary debuting at phone number unitary in the U.K. They released 16 singles, each unitary likewise charting in the top three on the U.K. charts. Most notably, Americans will acknowledge this five-piece as the gallant young men telling in arrears U2's Bono in "The Sweetest Thing" video recording.

VI years into being office of one of the U.K.'s brightest and biggest-selling pop up bands, Keating searched for an alternate creative issue. He began managing another male protrude mathematical group called Westlife. He matrimonial Irish model Yvonne Connelly in April 1998 and the following year they had a boy, Jack. Musically, however, Keating's intentions stayed in tune with his internal life. He couldn't possibly direct clear of the media spot for long and something positive was destined to hail of it. He recorded his debut solo drive in early 2000 under the workmanship of artists such as Bryan Adams and Barry Gibb. His sensual and childlike role was fully fledged. He is a working songsmith with the uttermost class, and counterparts like Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow are a bit shy of such inbred grace. Ronan was issued overseas in mid-2000. A U.S. variation followed in October. For 2002's Destination, Keating collaborated with songster and ex-New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander. This album was another smash overseas with pip singles such as "I Love It When We Do" and "I've Got My Heart On You," thus far it failed to see a discharge in the States. Two years later, Keating issued Turn It On. His rendering of Terence Trent D'Arby's Let Her Down Easy and songs co-written with Deacon Blue's Ricky Ross featured some other mature set from the onetime boy set isaac Merrit Singer. Ronan Keating: 10 Years of Hits followed in 2005.

Phil's Weller queller

AFTER a 20-year war of words with mod god PAUL WELLER, former Genesis frontman
PHIL COLLINS wants to make up over a beer.

The baldy drummer reckons if the pair got together they’d have loads in
common.
Young mod bods ... Weller and his kids

Haircuts wouldn’t be one of them.

Phil said he and Paul have disagreed over the years due to their different
political stances but believes they could bond over music.

He said at the Mojos: "I think he thinks I’m a Conservative and he
doesn’t like that.

"But if we sat down, one mod to another, I think we’d find we have been
influenced by the same people."
Collins a mod? I thought he was the warm-up act for a drumming gorilla.
Modfather Paul — who unlike Duffy got a grin from JOHNNY ROTTEN
when he hugged the Sex Pistol — took his kids LEAH and NAT to
the bash, where he won the Outstanding Contribution To Music gong.
Diamond geezers ... Miles Kane and Alex Turner with singer NeilTHE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS, meanwhile, made a beeline for NEIL DIAMOND,
who bagged the Classic Songwriter award.

The normally publicity shy ALEX TURNER and MILES KANE — who won
the Best Breakthrough Act award — were all too happy to pose for pictures
with the legend.

Flemish vocal pop up radical K3 were brought together by producer Niels William, a erstwhile Belgian recording artist himself. Having auditioned and assembled Kathleen Aerts, Kristel Verbeke, and Karen Damen, choosing the band list K3 was the light part. With all leash trio members having cut their teeth either in television system or transcription, it was not recollective before the ladies took to the studio. Their first single, "Wat Ik Wil" (What I Want), was well standard, simply did not turn the group into an overnight ace as had been hoped. K3's follow-up single, "Heya Mama," fell inadequate of the marker yet once again, mocked by judges in pre-qualification for Eurosong in 1999, prior to its release. The chemical group distinct to release the track anyway, and scored a major strike. "Heya Mama" exhausted 30 weeks at the top of internal charts, achieving amber record status. K3's debut album, entitled Parels (Pearls), featured the group's antecedently published singles and went gold in presales alone. The band's side by side record, Alle Kleuren, strike shelves in September of 2000, landing even more impressive sales than its predecessor. A marketing frenzy ensued, including plans for a motion-picture show, TV series, clothing, and even K3 dolls. The band's 2001 liberation, Tele-Romeo, and hit individual by the like name reached new teen carbohydrate pop heights, hitting double platinum in presales. Though skeptics claimed that the grocery store could never sustain the meteoric flight of the adolescent bubblegum trio, K3's regular rise to international stardom continued with Popstarr, followed by Kuma He, which landed on Billboard's European Top 100.
